Ever dream of being Bond?

Hi guys!
So apparently the British secret service is looking for new decrypterators.
You might have heard about it (if I’m totally honest, today is the first time stumbled upon it), theres a ‘super secret’ site called www.canyoucrackit.co.uk, on which you will only see a list of numbers and a countdown timer. If that’s enough to get you interested, why not give it a shot.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim - Arachnophobia Mod

Just days after the official release of Skyrim , Luthien Anarion has uploaded a “NoSpiders” mod,  in which the spiders in the game are replaced by crabs or bears. In the newer version of the mod he has even replaced the spider loading screen, to make the game fit for anyone suffering from arachnophobia. The models still look a little out of place… and personally I find it a little weird that people are also afraid of digital spiders.

What next, a “Sunlight and grassy fields” mod for Bioshock, so that people suffering from claustrophobia can play?

On a semi-related topic; If you are planning on buying Skyrim you might want to wait a bit longer. There are still a few bugs to fix, and it´s always annoying if a glitch causes you to lose items, quests or progress.
Hehe, the bears just reminded me of Oglafs flat bears, check her stuff out. The way she rips on fantasy and rpg culture is great!

 have a great week!

Hey Girls & Guys of the internet,

I recently uploaded a game to kongregate. It’s a small puzzle game, based on the rather famous bejeweled developed by PopCap games. I was playing around with hexagons and thought it might be a fun to program it. Everything went quicker than expected, and only took a week of work to complete.. So here it is:  I.N.R.I.

cheers,

Hackers crack German government spy software

This week IT experts from the CCC (Chaos Computer Club) hacked german government spy software. They claim the conroversial software is capable of illigal activities, contains mutiple security flaws and "...appeared to be of shoddy quality".

The three-decade old German hacker group Chaos Computer Club (CCC) is claiming in a new report that that the German government has developed software to gather information from target computers. The software, which CCC refers to as Bundestrojaner or “government trojan,” can capture screenshots, record keystrokes, and record audio from sources like Skype calls. Accused LulSec hacker Topiary released on bail

"Jake Davis, an 18-year-old from the Shetland Islands, was released on bail after being charged with five offences relating to computer attacks and break-ins by the LulzSec and Anonymous hacking groups. Davis was granted bail to stay with his mother at their new home in Spalding, Lincolnshire, on condition that he does not access the internet either directly or through anyone else. He also has to wear a tag to ensure a 10pm to 7am curfew. Davis, whom police believe used the online nickname “Topiary” and was a member of the LulzSec and Anonymous hacking groups, was arrested at 2.10pm last Wednesday in Mid Yell, an northern island of the Shetlands. Extra Credits leaves the Escapist Magazine

bad new everyone,

After over a year’s work, in which the Extra Credits team brought out over 50 amazing episodes, they have now left the Escapist Magazine, and their videos can no longer been viewed on the page.
The reason for this is that Escapist Magazine had not been paying the team for some time. The, at first did not stop the team, who still continued producing episodes for months. But when the team started to collect donations for a surgery( of the artist´s arm), the Escapist Magazine claimed that they were entitled to some (well actually a lot!) of the donations!

“We asked the guys at The Escapist if we could trade some of the debt they owed us for the rights to our intellectual property back if they weren’t going to be able to pay us so we could do things like sell t-shirts or write a book. We thought this was going to be an easy discussion. Instead they responded by telling us that they felt that they were entitled to 75% of the Rockethub money, thus their debt was covered and, despite not paying us for nearly a year, we owed them $9500 dollars”

full story here

The good news: The team is still producing new episodes, and will be airing them on their youtube channel here

All the best to the Extra Credits team!

Hellgate: London - Now Free To Play

Hi Internet,

Hellgate: London is a dark fantasy themed action role-playing game originally developed by Flagship Studios, released on October 31, 2007”… The game flopped, mainly because the lack of time gave it that typical ‘not quite finished’ look, and within months the servers were dead.

Now HanbitSoft, the current holder of the trademark has released that it will be offering the game free to play in the U.S and Europe. Finally, it’s been free-to-play in South Korea for some time now.

Anyhow, If you missed the short lived game during its release in 2007, heres your second chance to check it out.

And the discussion continues..

„Media reports indicate retailer Coop Norway will cease to carry 51 gaming and toy brands following attacks that killed…“
The same shit again. As soon as a shooting happens, the angry mob mounts the barricades calling for a ban on (violent) computer games. And once again, like all the times before, I do not think that computer games were the reason for the death of so many people.

Anders Breivik, the Norwegian mass murderer, was motivated by racism and an insane hate for humans. He planned the attack over 9 years! I strongly doubt he was sitting in his home, playing “Call of Duty” or “Counter Strike” and something inside him snapped... and had the urge to kill people. Although I’m not a fan of violent games, I do not believe they were the reason for this tragedy. I believe the fault lies entirely with Anders Breivik, the man was a racist, deranged psychopath.
My condolences to all the people, who lost friends and family at Utoya and Oslo.

p.s. Sorry for posting so seldomly in the last week. We’re re-releasing Spice Pirates with a huge content update and I’m in Uni from 8am till 10pm. just enough time for some food and a shower.
x,
jake
